On Saturday, October 21st, 2023, the vibrant Calavera LGBTQ Street Festival returned for its 8th year, bringing together the Latinx and LGBTQ communities for an unforgettable celebration. Hosted at Mi Centro in Boyle Heights, the festival embodied the spirit of Día de los Muertos while honoring our diverse community.
Over 300 attendees gathered to enjoy a day filled with colorful altars, powerful performances by queer Latinx artists, and the energy of folklorico and Aztec dancers. A highlight of the evening was the much-anticipated Mx. Calavera drag competition, which brought creativity, talent, and celebration to the forefront.
The festival wasn’t just about celebration—it was a moment of unity. Proceeds supported LEA’s programs dedicated to creating safe spaces, promoting youth leadership, and fostering family acceptance.
The 2023 Calavera LGBTQ Festival was truly a night to remember, filled with tradition, joy, and a shared sense of community that will remain in our hearts until we gather again next year.
