Founded in 2009, the Latino Equality Alliance’s mission is to advocate for the safety, equity, and wellness of the Latinx LGBTQ. Latino Equality Alliance is committed to recruiting and developing leaders in the Latine/x LGBTQ community to advance equality and resources. LEA utilizes the tools of advocacy, community engagement, and public education to build healthy and safe environments for the LGBTQ community. Job Description

The role of the development coordinator involves strategic planning, fundraising, donor cultivation, and developing marketing and media attractions that help sustain the organization. We are seeking a development coordinator who is motivated, detail-oriented, and has excellent written and verbal skills. The development coordinator will support the organization’s grant writing and fundraising efforts by coordinating development projects with the team related to– prospect research, data entry, sponsorship documents, event merch, fundraising campaigns, and related projects. This can also include handling various tasks related to donor cultivation that require our website and social media expertise. Much of the work is spent on donor cultivation, grant writing, event planning, and activities related to Latine/x LGBTQ philanthropy.

Key Areas of Responsibilities

Collaborate with the Director of Development and Operations, Executive Director, Development Coordinator, and staff to conceptualize fundraising projects. This will include identifying programs that need financial support and ensuring grants are aligned strategically with organizational goals.

  • Support with grant writing
  • Update the Development Handbook
  • Manage fundraising and donor cultivation data, outreach, meetings, and events
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of fundraising campaigns, events, and data entry
  • Support the donor database management by tracking gifts and contributions to the organization and developing strategic plans for stewardship
  • Help draft and distribute fundraising materials, such as sponsorship request letters, emails, and newsletters
  • Research potential donors and funding opportunities
  • Creating a positive and respectful reputation for the organization
  • Provide administrative support for fundraising activities, such as scheduling appointments, managing budgets, and developing programming scripts
  • Participate in team and organizational meetings to provide updates and support to fundraising efforts
  • Writing grant proposals and acknowledgments such as thank you cards/one-page reports for grants or donations received

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to work independently and as a team leader
  • Availability to work and travel outside of regular business hours
  • Development, special events, and grant writing experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of best practices in fundraising
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, customer relationship management (CRM) software, and social media platforms
  • Comprehend evaluation tools and reports
  • Valid driver’s license

Core Competencies and Abilities:

  • Develop and lead fundraising activities that meet the needs and interests of the supporters, executive director, and board of directors
  • Relate to and work effectively with youth, young adults, staff, organizational leaders, partners, donors, and stakeholders
  • Manage and update fundraising data and donor report(s) as requested
  • Strong skills in risk management, crisis intervention, and de-escalation
  • Ability to organize materials, documents, and program activities
  • Resolve problems on time and maintain an appropriate paper trail
  • Prioritize and plan development work activities, meetings, and strategies
  • Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness by completing work on time and relaying work progress to ensure high quality of work and team accountability
  • Simultaneously work on multiple projects and quickly switch gears as needed
  • Participate in LEA events and special programs
  • Adapt to changes within the workplace and during the planning and execution of the development program

Work Schedule: Non-Exempt, 40 hours per week. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends is required.

Physical Requirements/Demands: Standing, walking, repetitive motions, bending, stretching, and able to lift 20 lbs without issue.

Travel: You must be able and willing to drive your reliable vehicle to development activities and meetings. Mileage reimbursement is available.

Education / Experience: A bachelor’s degree is preferred, and you should have at least two years of development experience, including grant writing. Five to seven years of development experience with no degree. Significant work experience in developing fundraising campaigns, building strategic partnerships, and a deep understanding of funder and donor cultivation. Strong computer skills are required, including the use of Microsoft Office. Familiarity with CMS systems is a plus: sound judgment, discretion, and confidentiality.

Experience working with diverse committees and volunteer leadership is a plus. Involvement and/or knowledge of the LGBTQ+ community and/or non-profit organizations preferred.
